Climb Aboard Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium & Ripley’s Moving Theater
Posted by Tim O'Brien on June 24, 2006PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - (June 24, 2006) -The new Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium and Ripley's Moving Theater are now open for business just a few blocks from the Gulf of Mexico and early attendees rave that the unique attraction is in "ship shape" form.
The three-story structure is designed to look like a 1950s vintage luxury cruise liner run aground on the beach and is highlighted with a pair of 75-foot tall smokestacks, a 94-foot tall mast looming overhead and three enormous, rotating propellers.
"We couldn't be more thrilled with the opening of these two magnificent attractions in such a great destination as Panama City Beach," said Bob Masterson, CEO of Ripley Entertainment. "This world-class facility is the latest attraction in our global expansion plan which includes the opening of Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium in Williamsburg, Va. in July."
Open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., the Odditorium and Moving Theater is located at 9907 Front Beach Road at the intersection of Thomas Drive and houses hundreds of unusual, strange and fascinating oddities.
Among its one-of-a-kind artifacts and exhibits, the Panama City Beach collection features a 23-foot long Lincoln Town Car covered with 23,000 gold-plated British coins valued at $1.3 million, an 11-foot tall Eiffel Tower made entirely of matchsticks and a two-ton Chinese dragon ship made of carved jade. A genuine Jivaro Indian shrunken head comes from Ecuador and a two headed, six-legged calf is on display from Robert Ripley's personal collection.
Ripley's Moving Theater is a high-tech dynamic motion-based simulation ride that features four different ride film experiences and takes guests on a pulse-pounding sight-and-sound experience. Sitting in individual seats synchronized with the action on the screen, guests wear 3-D glasses making them feel a part of the movie. In addition, they will experience a fourth dimension - wind, water and other elements.
