Copenhagen’s Louis Tussaud’s Wax Museum Closing its Doors for Good on August 31

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (July 24, 2007) - One of Copenhagen's most historical tourist attractions is set to close for good August 31.

Louis Tussaud's Wax Museum, established in 1974, will close down when its current lease with Tivoli Gardens expires. It will not be renewed as Tivoli needs the property for future expansion. Located in the Hans Christian Andersen Castle, adjacent to and owned by Tivoli, the venerable wax attraction has amazed nearly 10 million people during the last 33 years with its lifelike portrayals of the famous, the infamous and the nearly famous.

Bent Green, who has been manager of the attraction since its beginning, sees the closing as bittersweet. "I have seen many of the same people year after year coming back and bringing new people each time they visit our museum," Green noted. "It's sad that something this important in the lives of so many people must go away, but it's heartwarming to know how many people our wax figures have made smile during the years!"

Green said the most popular as well as the most photographed figure in the building is not that of some celebrity or a royal figure, but of a wax man sitting on a bench in the lobby reading a newspaper.  ???People see him and look away but when they look back and see he hasn't moved they get the joke and start laughing.??? Green said people love being fooled by the wax figures. "That's why we have been so successful for so long," he adds.

Bob Masterson, President of Ripley Entertainment Inc., which owns the Louis Tussauds Wax Museums throughout the world, notes that the museum has been an important part of the Copenhagen leisure scene for years and that he is appreciative of the dedicated employees who have contributed to its success. "We have watched our staff advance from youth to becoming grandparents, doctors and teachers. We have enjoyed the smiling faces of the millions of visitors to our attraction and, most of all we have enjoyed the company of all the friends we've made in this great city."

Most of the 200-plus wax figures will be redeployed to other Ripley Entertainment attractions worldwide. Remaining open for business in Copenhagen are two other Ripley Entertainment, Danish-franchised attractions: Ripley's Believe It or Not! and the Guinness World Records Museum.
