Spooky Days are Here Again at Ripley's Haunted Adventures

SAN ANTONIO, GATLINBURG & MYRTLE BEACH (Oct. 13, 2008) - Spooky and scary things are taking place again this year at the three former Grimsby and Streaper Casket Company locations, now known at Ripley's Haunted Adventures, where the caretakers from Ripley tend to go a bit crazy each October.
Additional scares, screams and scenery are loaded in just before Halloween to assure that visitors to these three year-round attractions get their souls scared in due fashion.
During October, the haunts become even scarier when the number of live actors multiply and increased themed surroundings play on your sight, touch and smell.
It's the 10th annual Fright Night at Ripley's Haunted Adventure in Gatlinburg, Tenn. and this year the scare team appears to have outdone themselves and have created the biggest and most exciting scare machine of the past decade. "Twilight of the Dead" is the theme this year and Chris MacPherson of the Ripley fright squad notes that there will be an extensive variety of the living dead on hand.
This year's main event in Gatlinburg will be a visit from Tony Todd, who was featured in such movies as "Candyman," "Final Destination" and "Wishmaster." He will be appearing for two nights only, Oct. 17 & 18, from 7 p.m. to midnight. Todd will be available for a meet, greet and autograph session each night, for an additional fee. At Ripley's Haunted Adventure in San Antonio, Texas, located across from the Alamo, the "spooktacular attraction will transform itself into something beyond imagination during Fright Nights," said Davis Phillips, general manager of the multi-million dollar attraction. "We present an amazing mix of live actors, animatronics, elaborate settings, and bone chilling special effects that will transport our guests into their worst nightmare!"
Extended hours have been created for the expected crowds that predictably show up in October. Thrills start each night at 7 p.m. and the event runs daily through Nov. 1. Call 210-226-2828 for additional hours and admission fees.
Ironically, earlier this year, at Ripley's Haunted Adventure in Myrtle Beach, S.C. the Coastal Spirit Chasers identified at least four earthbound spirits residing inside the attraction building. "We were quite surprised by those findings," said Kim Kiff, general manager of Ripley's Myrtle Beach Boulevard attractions. "For years we have put on a show to scare our visitors and all along, there have been real spirits in the building. I bet they have had fun watching our efforts!"
The theme of this year's show is "The Haunting" and it will run Oct. 17 & 18, and Oct. 24-31. The new found spirits are the basis of a sub-theme this year -"Meet the new resident evil." However, Kiff says she can't guarantee that the real spirits will enjoy all the commotion and not cause any additional, unintended scares.
