New Franchise Location Marks 28th Permanent Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium
ORLANDO, FL – December 21, 2021 – In time for a holiday getaway to Mexico, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Cancun is now officially open. Located in La Isla Mall, guests can explore 11 immersive galleries packed with over 400 wonders, including brand-new interactives, photo ops, and artifacts from around the world.
- Meet the world’s tallest man and see how you measure up! Believe It or Not!, Robert Wadlow wore a size 25 ring, 37 AA shoe (on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Cancun) and was 8’11” tall!
- Challenge your reality with mind-bending optical illusions and snap your photo to prove that seeing is believing in the Ames room.
- Admire odd art, like a portrait of rapper Nicki Minaj crafted with 8,950 lipstick tubes or a replica of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling made entirely of colorful laundry lint!
With the opening of this Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium, the brand now boasts three attractions at La Isla. The Cancun franchise team opened Ripley’s Marvelous Mirror Maze and Ripley’s LaseRace in November 2020 while the Odditorium was still under construction.
“Amidst the challenge of designing and constructing an attraction during a pandemic, the Cancun franchise team has been hard at work, overcoming obstacles for two years to see this amazing attraction come together. We are proud of what the team has accomplished and are excited to have a strong presence in Mexico’s top tourist destination,” said Ripley’s VP of Franchise Services, Phyllis Calloway.
With nearly 40 years of experience, Ripley’s Cancun franchisee, Rene Aziz, is no stranger to the attractions industry. In 1983, he opened his first park with a single ride and continues to operate successful attractions throughout Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and the United States. CEO of Grupo Divertido, Aziz was also IAAPA Chairman of the Board—the first chairman from Latin America.
Thanks to the addition of Aziz’s franchises, Mexico has a stronghold on Ripley’s international attractions, with 12 Ripley’s experiences between Cancun, Guadalajara, Veracruz, and Mexico City.
